Juris Doctor Moot

Hello and welcome to the La Trobe law family! My name’s Sam, and I’m a third and final year Juris Doctor student at La Trobe. I’ve previously completed a Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe and am currently the Director of the Juris Doctor (JD) portfolio in the LSA committee. Ultimately, my team and I arrange all the events for the JD students, while also acting as representatives for any questions or concerns you may have about the JD specifically. Given I am now in my sixth year of tertiary studies, I think one of the main things I wish I had known sooner would be the importance of making friends with those around you and in your classes. Having friends in the same course is so useful when it comes to studying for exams, and it gives you the morale boost you need to get through all the legal jargon and—at times—stress which comes with a law degree. Also, completing the readings or even skimming through them is game changing and can easily boost your grades if that’s something which interests you. For those first years undertaking the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at our Bundoora campus, I highly recommend checking out ‘Grain Express’ at the top level of the Agora for one of their laksas or dumplings. I would always head there to treat myself after a gruelling class or lecture. Alternatively, for those undertaking the JD at our City campus, I would suggest checking out our campus’ outdoor seating area on a nice sunny day to take a break from the study and relax with a coffee from ‘In A Rush Café’ in between classes. Best wishes to all of you, and if you ever see me around campus, please feel free to introduce yourself and say hello!
